Why Facebook, Instagram And WhatsApp are off and Face Worldwide Outages

Tens of thousands of Facebook users reported experiencing outages on Monday, as well as users of other major social media platforms, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger in outages that appear to be international.

Here in East Africa Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, we really witnessed social media activists wondering what had happened to their Data bundle. Some of the Ugandan thought that the government had again banned the social media platforms as it normally does.

According to outage tracking service DownDetector, the number of outages reported by users spiked for all four of Facebook’s major services around 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Comments left on DownDetector and other social media platforms indicate that users all over the world are experiencing outages on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Facebook did not immediately respond to requests for comment, but said in a statement the company is “aware” of the complaints and working on a solution.
